Paints and AccessoriesAcrylic is modern, accessible, saturated and universal paint. You can use acrylic paints and accessories for any kind of painting, from finely detailed portrait to abstract art.

Acrylic paint is one of the most versatile paint materials out there. The reason for it is the uniqueness of paint characteristics.

Another great thing about acrylic paint is that by adding acrylic mediums to it you can change it’s properties just any way you want it. For example, you can create glazing effects or work in impasto technique. But even without mediums acrylic paint is still great and east to work with.

 

Step by step work with acrylic paints and accessories:


1.  Acrylic Gesso

gessoYou need to prime your painting support to prepare it for the paint. To do so you need to use  Acrylic Gesso. Only a proper acrylic gesso should be used to prime the canvas in preparation for painting with acrylic paints.  It dries hard, making the surface stiffer.

You can bye canvas that is already primed. Although you can apply acrylic paint to a raw canvas if so desired, gesso is popular for a reason. Click here to read more about Gesso.

2. Acrylic Paint

paint-tube-1517302It was only relatively recently, in the mid-20th century, that acrylic colors were developed to offer artists a new, vibrant and exciting painting alternative.

Acrylic Paint is a fast-drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints are water-soluble but become water-resistant when dry. Depending on how much water you add, or modified with acrylic gels or media, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media.

3. Acrylic Medium

gelsmart1The versatility of acrylics and their immediate popularity soon led to the introduction of acrylic mediums. These mediums are designed to enhance the benefits of acrylics and allow the attainment of special effects. Acrylic medium is something you mix into the paint to achieve the desired effect. Inter alia relief stroke, texture, making the paint thicker, thinner, glossy, matte, textured, slow-drying and more.

4. Varnish

Varnish is your protective blanket from dust, ultraviolet rays, humidity, and scuffing. You varnish your finished paintings, which also can add a certain aesthetic appeal.
